Qigong Therapy: Enhancing Well-Being and Life Satisfaction in Older Adults
Qigong, an ancient Chinese practice combining physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, has been shown to significantly improve the psychological well-being and overall health of older adults. Over a 10-week period, participants engaged in Qigong therapy sessions twice a week, each lasting 50 minutes. The results revealed notable improvements in mental health, physical condition, sleep quality, and life satisfaction compared to those who did not participate in the therapy.
The study involved 69 older adults in South Korea, divided into an intervention group and a control group. Measures included assessments of psychological well-being, physical health status, sleep state, and life satisfaction. The intervention group showed statistically significant improvements across all measures, highlighting the efficacy of Qigong in promoting holistic health among the elderly.
These findings suggest that incorporating Qigong into the routine of older adults can be an effective strategy to enhance their quality of life. The practice not only addresses physical health but also supports mental and emotional well-being, offering a comprehensive approach to healthy aging.
